Thank you ladyfantasy, for your recent compliment.
Do you know that the most interesting wines are produced from grapes which come from vines whose roots must struggle through rocks and Godforsaken earth in search of nutrients? It's true. The roots must work so hard in their search, that they become strong, picking up a variety of tasty experiences along the way. It's why I love Italian wines so, because the grapes have been cultivated there for centuries, stripping the soil of surface nutrients, thereby producing exceptionally complex and delicious nectar. Our big, fat wines of Washington state are spoiled brats which are born of rich and plentiful volcanic soil. Oh, most American palettes love them because here, "big, fat, more" is better. (I'd just as soon pop open a jar of Smucker's jam.) But for true character, integrity, complexity and an inexplicably delightful experience, a discerning seeker will always choose the one who didn't have it so easy coming up. (and if you're lucky like me, you'll be plucked by one who expertly adores some fine ageing as well!)
