This is a picture of Jupiter made with a powerful telescope. What Galileo was looking at were points of light. Wouldn't he have loved to see this !!!!!!!
This is a page from Galileo's manuscripts from 1610 !!! Imagine how incredible it would be to see his manuscripts. It shows sketches he made of Jupiter and its moons with his crude (by todays standards) telescope. I am always fascinated to see works from the masters, Galileo, DaVinci, Michelangelo. How I would love to see, hold, to touch such treasures !!!
so many flowers and so quick the day does fly, try not to pick the flowers lest they die, when the lily of the valley open, they will be picked and set on my nightstand to sweetly scent my dreams............
our star is shining brightly, gently warming the planet where i reside. the flowers are bursting forth, with each day they bud and bloom. yesterday the windows were open for the first time, bringing in the warm breeze. the ground wakens from its winter sleep and gives us its bounty. soon the strong winds of the atlantic will brush my hair, soon, soon i'll be there............
This is a picture of Comet Holmes and the California Nebulae in the constellation Perseus. This picture came from my favorite website, and it is a beauty. The greenish color of Comet Holmes is discernible even in my little 3 inch telescope. You can also catch it with binoculars.
Tomorrow, March 4th, a daylight spectacle can be seen. The Moon will be a very slender crescent, and to the lower right, Venus will be visible, almost touching the moon. In many parts of North America, the moon will occult Venus, it will blink out, and if you watch for about an hour, Venus will blink back in, on the far, dark part of the moon. I'll never be able to put into words how celestial events fascinate me......... It will be cloudy for me, but this picture was taken last year, when similar conditions occurred. It would be so nice to get the telescope on it. Hope somebody can get a nice view.
On March 1st, the Mars orbiter was imaging the Martian north pole for signs of a water cycle on Mars. By chance it captured a massive avalanche at the pole !!!! Pretty fantastic. I am always amazed and in awe of this mighty solar system and universe we occupy.
Just downloaded the pictures I took of tonight's eclipse. It was spectacular !!! Sadly, when I zoom in and try to get a clear picture to post, the pixels are too big. This picture does not do justice to the beauty in the sky, but I tried. Hope everyone had a chance to see it.
Tonight there will be a total eclipse of the moon, to be seen by most of North America and Europe. Totality for EST is about 10:15 PM. The color and characteristics taken on by the moon is always amazing. The camera is already on the tripod. In my locale snow is predicted for that time. I hope it's not true. There will not be another eclipse of the moon until 2010 !!!
Happy Valentine's Day !!!! One of my major interests is astronomy. This picture was on my favorite website today. It is a picture of a nebula that is 7500 light years away. It is called the heart nebula. It seems most fitting to attach it to a wish for all for a Happy Valentine's Day. I'd like to call it the Valentine Nebula..........
